Abstract

ABSTRACT
This paper reports a correlations study conducted to identify the relationship between involvement in learning and the level of reflective thinking among students of Technical and Vocational Education (TVET). Instrument in form of questionnaire was completed by 195 final year students of Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Reviews of literature revealed that a critical reflective thinking is difficult to achieved by most students. This study shows that students are at high level of reflective thinking. Students earn high mean on understanding construct (M = 4.11, SD = .41), compared with the other constructs of reflective thinking that is habitual action (M = 3.70, SD = .63), reflection (M = 4.08, SD = .43) and critical reflection (M = 4.00, SD = .48). Analysis of correlation showed that the relationship between the level of reflective thinking and involvement in learning were significantly high with r = .41. The results of this study also showed that students in TVET achvieved a satisfactory level of reflective thinking in their learning. Reflection skills help students connect the theories of learning and practices in teaching. Therefore, students should always be trained and go through the guidance process to acquire skills of critical level of reflective thinking. Some suggestions for further study are discussed.
