KESAN PERBANDARAN KE ATAS GEJALA SOSIAL REMAJA MELAYU (THE EFFECTS OF URBANISATION ON THE SOCIAL ILLS OF MALAY TEENAGERS)

Abstract

Fokus utama kajian ini ialah bagaimana proses perbandaran dan pemodenan memberi kesan terhadap perlakuan golongan remaja. Sebahagian besar data untuk kajian ini diperolehi daripada kajian kepustakaan serta soal selidik dan temu bual yang dilakukan ke atas 47 buah keluarga Melayu berpendapatan rendah yang tinggal di rumah pangsa 17 tingkat, Kampung Kerinchi, Kuala Lumpur. Kajian ini mendapati proses perbandaran dan pemodenan telah membawa perubahan kepada keluarga Melayu berpendapatan rendah, seperti peningkatan dalam kecenderungan kaum wanita (isteri/ibu) berkerjaya dan kurangnya perhatian ibu bapa terhadap anak-anak. Ini ternyata membawa kesan yang sangat kritikal kepada golongan remaja di bandar. Perubahan-perubahan tersebut didapati telah menyumbang kepada peningkatan salah laku golongan remaja, antaranya merokok, melibatkan diri dalam aktiviti mat rempit, mak nyah, pengkit dan pergaulan bebas.

Abstract

The main focus of this study is on how the urbanization process and modernization affect the behaviour of adolescents. Most of the data for this study was derived from the literature as well as questionnaires and interviews conducted on 47 low-income Malay families living in 17-storey flat-dwelling, Kampung Kerinchi, Kuala Lumpur. This study found that urbanization and modernization process had brought about a change to the low-income Malays, such as an increase in the tendency of women (wives/mothers) to work and the lack of parents' concern for children. This turns out to be very critical for teenagers in the city. These changes were found to have contributed to the increase in misconduct among adolescents, among them smoking, engaging in mat rempit activities, transvestism, pengkid and promiscuity.
