 The Journal of Human Capital Development is a refereed journal, which was launched in August 2008 by the Centre of Languages and Human Development, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka. The journal is published twice a year (June and December). It serves as a platform for the discussion of new perspectives related to issues on human and technology development and social innovation.

Focus 

The Journal of Human Capital Development (JHCD) aims to:

  1. Promote interdisciplinary research that explores the development of human capital, workforce transformation, and the role of innovation in sustainable societal advancement.
  2. Provide a platform for research that integrates human potential with emerging trends in social innovation, responsible leadership, and technology.
  3. Contribute to global policy discussions and practices that drive inclusive growth, ethical leadership, and sustainable development.
  4. Facilitate knowledge exchange across academia, industry, and policy sectors, with a focus on developing practical solutions to contemporary challenges in human capital and social development.

Scope 

The journal covers a broad range of topics related to human capital, social advancement, and innovation. It welcomes original research, theoretical papers, and reviews addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

Main Themes:

  1. Human Capital Development and Societal Advancement
    This theme focuses on the development of human potential within individuals, organizations, and communities. It explores how workforce skills, competencies, leadership, and organizational capabilities contribute to sustainable economic, social, and cultural progress.
  2. Innovation, Ethics, and Sustainability in a Changing World
    Research under this theme addresses the role of innovation, technology, and ethical leadership in fostering sustainable societal transformation. It explores how innovative practices and responsible governance can drive long-term societal benefits.

  • Humanising Technology
    Examining the integration of technology into human capital development, with an emphasis on ethical practices, inclusive design, and human-centric innovations.
  • Social Innovation and Social Capital
    Exploring innovative solutions to social challenges and the importance of social networks, community building, and collaborative partnerships in advancing human and social capital.
  • Digital and Technological Humanities
    Investigating the intersection of digital technologies and humanistic values, focusing on how technology reshapes human experiences, work practices, and social engagement.
  • Responsible Leadership and Governance
    Researching the principles of ethical leadership, corporate governance, and social responsibility in organizations, with an emphasis on sustainability and long-term societal impact.
  • Workforce Transformation and Talent Development
    Examining the evolution of workforce needs, skill development, professional learning, and the impact of digital technologies on talent management and organizational culture.
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
    Exploring how human capital development, social innovation, and innovation policies contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Lifelong Learning and Skills Evolution
    Investigating the role of lifelong learning, educational innovation, and skills development in preparing individuals and communities for the future of work.

Industry and Community Collaboration
Studying partnerships between industry, academia, and communities to enhance human capital and address pressing global challenges such as inequality, unemployment, and social inclusion

Types of Contributions 

JHCD welcomes the submission of the following types of manuscripts:

  • Original Research Articles: Empirical studies and theoretical contributions that advance knowledge in human capital development, social innovation, and related fields.
  • Review Papers: Systematic reviews, literature reviews, and meta-analyses that critically examine research trends and gaps in human capital and social advancement.
  • Conceptual Papers: Papers that propose new models, frameworks, or theories in the field of human capital development and societal transformation.
  • Theoretical papers: Papers that refine existing theories or propose new ones to explain key issues in human capital development and societal transformation.

 

Peer Review Process

Each article is reviewed by at least two reviewers who are chosen from our panel of experts in their respective fields. JHCD utilizes Open Journal System (OJS) for paper submission and for tracking the progress of a submitted article.

Once submitted, authors may expect result of the first review in 3 to 4 weeks time.

After the article has been reviewed, an official review is created. Reviewers will then make proper recommendations regarding the publication of the article based on the following categories:

  • Accept submission: The article is accepted for publication by JHCD. Minimal revisions are required by authors to ensure that the article is ready for publication.
  • Revisions required: The article is accepted for publication by the JHCD, but authors must first address several issues regarding its content and / or structure before it is ready for publication.
  • Resubmit for review: The article needs substantial revision of its content and / or its structure and the article cannot be accepted for publication presently. However, because the article shows promise, authors should revise the entry and then resubmit it to the JHCD for consideration.*
  • Decline submission: The article is not accepted for publication. The article’s purpose, content, and/ or use of research are not appropriate for JHCD.

Reviewers’ decision, along with copies of their reviews, will be forwarded to the authors as quickly as possible. We cannot guarantee how long the review process takes, but our reviewers and editors are committed to ensuring that the process goes as swiftly as possible.

*If authors are invited to resubmit for review, we ask that authors resubmit  within 3 months. We also ask that they include the original version of the article and the comments that were made regarding the revisions. Our policy is to make a final publication decision after one revision (of course, further work may also be requested to resolve any remaining issues).

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
