PENGHARGAAN DIRI, SOKONGAN SOSIAL DAN PROSES MEMBUAT KEPUTUSAN KERJAYA DALAM KALANGAN PELAJAR KEJURUTERAAN TEKNIKAL (SELF-ESTEEM, SOCIAL SUPPORT AND CAREER DECISION MAKING AMONG TECHNICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS)

Abstract

Pada kebiasaannya, graduan di Malaysia mempunyai masalah dalam diri seperti kelakuan yang positif, konfiden dengan diri, kemahiran komunikasi, dan kemahiran mencari kerja. Seramai 68,473 orang graduan Malaysia yang bergraduasi telah gagal untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan pada tahun 2013. Berdasarkan laporan daripada KPT pada tahun 2013, sebanyak 25% daripada jumlah graduan yang bergraduasi telah gagal untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan. Laporan daripada (IPPTN) mendapati bahawa kelemahan dalam diri graduan telah menyebabkan mereka gagal untuk bekerja. 84 orang pelajar kejuruteraan teknikal (28 lelaki dan 56 perempuan) daripada Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka telah menjadi sampel untuk kajian ini. Objektif untuk kajian ini ialah untuk mengkaji hubungan diantara penghargaan diri dan membuat keputusan kerjaya, seterusnya untuk melihat hubungan diantara sokongan sosial dengan membuat keputusan kerjaya dalam kalangan pelajar kejuruteraan teknikal. Kajian ini telah menggunakan alat ujian Rosenberg Self-Esteem Sclae, Interpersonal Support Evaluation List, dan Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale. Hubungan diantara penghargaan diri, sokongan sosial dan membuat keputusan kerjaya telah dipersembahkan dengan menggunakan structural equation modelling (SEM). Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan diantara peghargaan diri dengan membuat keputusan kerjaya dan begitu juga hubungan diantara sokongan sosial dengan membuat keputusan kerjaya.

Abstract

 

Malaysian graduates mostly lack soft skills such as positive attitude, self-confidence, communication skill and job search skill. In 2013, total of 68,473 Malaysian graduates were unemployed. Based on enumeration by MOHE in 2013, 25% of graduates fail to find work after graduation. According to the National Higher Education Research Institute (IPPTN) they discovered that the shortcoming among graduates make them unemployed. This study comprises of 84 technical engineering students (28 males and 56 females) from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). The objectives of the study is to analyze the relationship between self-esteem and career decision-making as well as to identify the relationship between social support and career decision-making among technical engineering students. The instruments used in this study were the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Interpersonal Support Evaluation List, and Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale. The structural equation modeling was also used to validate the relationship between self-esteem, social support, and career decision-making. The findings show that there are significant relationships between self-esteem and career decision-making as well as between social support and career decision-making.
