KEPUASAN KERJA DALAM KALANGAN PEKERJA DI JABATAN KESELAMATAN UNIVERSITI SAINS MALAYSIA (Job Satisfaction Among Employees in Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Security Department)
Abstract
Kepuasan kerja memainkan peranan yang penting kepada seseorang pekerja untuk melakukan tugas-tugas yang telah diamanahkan. Peranan penting seseorang pekerja tidak dapat dinafikan walau di organisasi mana pun, termasuklah di Jabatan Keselamatan Universiti Sains Malaysia (JK USM), Pulau Pinang. Melihat kepada peranan JK USM iaitu menjamin kesejahteraan dan keselamatan aset universiti, warga universiti dan pelawat yang berkunjung serta membendung jenayah kepada warga universiti membuktikan bahawa organisasi ini sesungguhnya memerlukan pekerja yang menjalankan tugas mereka dengan amanah. Berdasarkan senario ini, bagi memastikan peranan JK USM dapat dilaksanakan dan tercapai, pihak pengurusan perlu memastikan terlebih dahulu aset yang dimilikinya iaitu keseluruhan para pekerja sentiasa berpuas hati dengan kerja masing-masing. Oleh yang demikian, satu kajian telah dilaksanakan di JK USM pada 4 hingga 6 Oktober 2017 yang mana bertujuan utama untuk menganalisis tahap kepuasan kerja para pekerja di JK USM. Seramai 21 orang pekerja telah diberikan soal selidik bagi mengetahui tahap kepuasan kerja mereka. Selain maklumat mengenai demografi, enam kriteria yang dianalisis dalam kajian ini adalah keadaan kerja, keadaan gaji, keadaan peluang kenaikan pangkat, keadaan corak penyeliaan, keadaan teman sekerja dan juga keadaan pekerjaan secara keseluruhan. Kajian ini dijalankan melalui kaedah soal selidik dengan menggunakan soalan melibatkan lima skala likert dan data kajian dianalisis menggunakan kaedah deskriptif seperti min, kekerapan dan peratusan. Objektif pertama kajian ini adalah untuk menganalisis tahap kepuasan kerja para pekerja di JK USM dan kedua mencadangkan langkah-langkah untuk meningkatkan kepuasan kerja mereka. Hasil kajian mendapati keadaan kerja, keadaan gaji, keadaan peluang kenaikan pangkat dan keadaan corak penyeliaan berada pada tahap sederhana manakala keadaan rakan sekerja dan keadaan pekerjaan secara keseluruhan berada pada tahap tinggi. Sehubungan dengan itu, pihak pengurusan perlu lebih peka terhadap kriteria-kriteria yang berada tahap kepuasan sederhana ini dan pada masa yang sama tidak mengabaikan kriteria yang berada pada tahap yang tinggi.

ABSTRACT
Work satisfaction plays an important role to an employee to carry out the tasks that are assigned to him or her. This important role cannot be denied in any organisation, including at the Jabatan Keselamatan (Security Department) in Universiti Sains Malaysia (JK USM), Penang. Looking at the role of JK USM which is to ensure harmony and safety of the university’s asset, the university staff and visitors and to combat crime among university residents and employees, it proves that this organisation really requires employees who can be reliable and trustworthy. Based on this scenario, to ensure that the role of JK USM can be implemented and achieved, the management has to make sure first that the asset owned which is the entire group of employees has to be satisfied with their job. Thus, a study was done in JK USM on 4th to 6th October 2017 where the main aim is to analyse the level of job satisfaction of employees in JK USM. A total of 21 staff were given the questionnaires to know their level of job satisfaction. Other than the information about demography, the six criteria analysed in this study are the work condition, salary, opportunity for promotion, pattern of supervision, peer condition and the state of the staff as a whole. This study is carried out through the questionnaire method using questions involving the five Likert Scale and the study data was analysed using the descriptive method like mean, frequency and percentage. The first objective of this study is to analyse the level of job satisfaction of staff in the JK USM and the second objective is to propose some measures to increase their level of job satisfaction. The study outcome reveals that the work condition, the salary condition, the opportunity for promotion and pattern of supervision are at a moderate level, whereas the peers condition are at high level. In relation to this, the management needs to be more sensitive to the moderatelevel criteria and at the same time, it does not neglect the high level criteria.
